2012 Spring Baseball Season FAQs

Here are some questions and answers about the upcoming Spring 2012 Season. If you require additional information, please email info@troybaseball.org and someone will respond to you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: When are the tryouts?
A: Evaluations will be setup in late January and information will be posted here on the website and sent in an email notice to all registrants.

We divide up players by age and putting them in the proper division. The league will send out emails and phone messages to all registered players informing them of their tryout date, time, and location. Once the tryouts are completed, the teams will then be picked by the coaches and you should here about which team your player is on by mid to late February.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: When do we get our raffle tickets?
A: The plan is that raffle tickets will be handed out to everyone at the tryouts. If you can't make the tryouts for some reason, then you will likely get them from your coach at the first practice. If you don't, please make sure that your coach gets them for you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I haven't heard from my coach yet. Are my kid(s) registered?
A: The teams are selected by early February so that the uniforms can be ordered.  Coaches will usually call their players by mid to late February and will start practicing sometime in March. If you haven't heard from a coach by March 1st, please send an email to info@troybaseball.org.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: When do the kids start practice?
Practices are up to the individual Managers. Some practice more than others. Typically all teams are selected at the end of February. Practices will start anytime after that (weather dependant).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do I assure that my child's practice will be conviently located?
Managers will typically hold practice where its convenient for them. As volunteers, that is their right. The only way to have control over where and when your child practices is to step up and volunteer to manage a team

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can my child be placed on the same team with his/her best friend(s)?
Troy Baseball does not assign players to teams. After registration is closed, Troy Baseball organizes drafts for the various age divisions. Managers choose their players one at at a time in a rotating order. The only player they are guaranteed to get on their team is their own son or daughter. Troy Baseball policy is that siblings (but not cousins) be drafted on the same team. The only way to have control over who your son or daughter plays with is to step up and volunteer to manage a team.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do I obtain a refund on my Family Fee?
Each family has to pay only one family fee. Once a family completes the required 10 hours of work at Lou Von fields and the hours are signed off by a Troy Board member, then the family fee is refunded. There is a separate article that addresses the Family Fee refund.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can we receive our Family Fee refund if our child performs one of the designated activities?
No. The family activity fee is designed to get the parents involved with the program in some way. Children will not be permitted to perform the activities to receive the family activity (Regardless of the child?s age). For certain activities your child may be permitted to attend while you are there. This is at the discretion of the person running the activity.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I have one child on a full-time travel team, and the other will be playing in house. Will I be able to take the early registration discount off for the travel player?
No. The discount only applies to in-house players. Travel players fall under a separate registration.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We live in another town (not Shorewood), can I register my child to play at Troy Baseball?
Yes. We do not have borders or boundaries.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can my son or daughter play outside their designated age group?
For Baseball, all players will remain in their designated league. We do not move players up or down from their playing level.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried registering over the Internet, but the site does not work. Why not?
If you run into problems registrering on line, please contact registration@troybaseball.org and someone will respond to your inquiry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Division will my child play in?
For boys, playing age is determined by what age the player is on April 30th of the playing season. Boys Coach Pitch: ages 5 & 6 / Pinto: ages 7 & 8 / Mustang: ages 9 & 10 / Bronco: ages 11 & 12 / Pony: ages 13 & 14.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When are games?
Most divisions will get 12 to 14 spring season games scheduled plus playoffs or 10 to 12 fall season games scheduled no playoffs. You can count on one game during the week and one on Saturday. Start times on weekdays will be after the normal work day ends. Start times on Saturday will vary. No games are scheduled for Easter, Memorial Day or Indpendence Day breaks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are games canceled by weather rescheduled?
We will make every effort to reschedule all games that are canceled or suspended due to weather. However, due to field space availability some games may need to be rescheduled for Sunday's. Games that are canceled near the end of the season may not be able to get rescheduled. In the fall season we are very limited to field space and daylight so, some games may not be made up.
